Review: Sucker Punch

Odd film. Wonderful from a visual stand point, with some great set pieces, but don’t expect it to make a great deal of sense, from a literal standpoint.

There are some spoilers here, so be warned. I’ll try and keep them light though. For people that hate them, spoiler tags!

As far as I followed it, Sucker Punch follows the story of a girl that loses her mind, when her stepfather kills her sister, after he learnt that their now dead mother left everything to them, rather than him.

Her insanity is an important point. As is the viewpoint being from within that insanity. She doesn’t see that she’s in an asylum. Just somewhere else, held against her will. And while she knows something bad is coming in a few days, she doesn’t pay attention to what that is, in the ‘real’ world. Translating it to something that fits in the world she’s seeing, which isn’t, really, as bad as the real world.

It’s an interesting way of doing things. Snyder doesn’t quite pull it off, but it’s close. I enjoyed watching it.
